Reflections & Expressions: Spring/Summer 2021 Concert Series

JOIN US online for a series of 13 SHORT CONCERTS over 13 WEEKS featuring professional singers and pianists of HOS, past and present, as they share music that is important to them and why.

Starting SUNDAY, MAY 2nd, @3:00pmEDT each mini concert (approximately 30 minutes) will be available to enjoy in the comfort of your own home anytime during the week until the following Saturday. The next concert will be released the following Sunday @3:00pm and will be available for the following week.

Support these young professional artists by purchasing more than one viewing link. All funds will go toward performers' professional fees.

Exploring the Asian Experience (as a 2nd Generation Canadian)
Samuel Chan, Baritone & Piano

Join Sam in Kiel, Germany, where he is working full time as an operatic baritone (Opernhaus Kiel), as he takes us on a journey of exploration of the music & culture of Asian Canadians & Americans in contemporary culture. Featuring Folk Songs and compositions by Huang Zi, Tanya Chua, A-Mei, and more.

PROGRAM:

Part One: Our past is our identity; songs in the western classical style

3 songs by Huang Zi:

Part 2: How present is our identity; cabaret and popular music of Artists of Asian Descent

Bio

Chan is proud of his Singaporean Chinese heritage. he has appeared on stages across North America and Europe, including the Canadian Opera Company, Toronto Mendelssohn Choir with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Oper Kiel, Elora Festival, Cincinnati Early Music Festival, Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute and more. Favourite roles include Figaro in The Barber of Seville, Marcello in La Bohème, and Papageno in The Magic Flute. He is currently a resident artist at Oper Kiel in Germany, and is a graduate of the COC Ensemble Studio and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
