Visual Artist: Encaustic and Mixed Media

Laurie O'Reilly is a figurative and environmental artist. Raised in Niagara Falls and Toronto, she studied Fine Art at the University of Guelph. Her work is mostly done in encaustic (wax) and is narrative driven. She is an observer, a painter, a visual storyteller, as well as a 3D and mixed media artist. Her work is embedded with materials and layers in order to create a dimensional texture and glow that is hard to achieve with other media. She will not hesitate to incorporate oils, acrylics, and raw pigments into her work to communicate her ideas.
Laurie recently had her mixed media piece "Overexposed" awarded the Quarrington Multidisciplinary Arts Award as part of the Carmichael Canadian Landscape Exhibition in Orillia. Her piece examines the relationship of humans and technology in today's environment. A narrative work about our personal connections and feelings of isolation. You can see her work on display at the Orillia Museem of Art and History, until Jan. 17.
